Mahtab Hussain

Mahtab Hussian is another practitioner who’s work I find phenomonal. It’s ironic because one of his projects ‘Going back to where I came from’ eludes to this feeling of displacement and not belonging anywhere, and that’s how I have felt while searching for other South Asian- British photographers.

I think I really love his work because I can relate to it. I too feel as though I don’t belong anywhere, Im too British for Pakistan and too Pakistani for Britain. there are several feelings that come with this process of displacemt and Mahtab’s work really made me reflect on myself and my own practice. I realised that I too am photographing subjects to do without feeling like I belong as a muslim woman in today’s Society.

His work is beautifully composed, rich with colour and poignant. You can find his work here.
