Sabr.
Sabr; An Arabic term translating to mean endurance, patience and perseverance in Islam, it is considered a fundamental Islamic value. In this series I explore what Sabr looks like in Muslim women, how they embrace their faith in different ways, those who have faith or were brought up around it, tend to fall back on it in moments of need, gratitude and strife. These images were created to offer an insight into a world that is unknown to others, seemingly hidden and forbidden. Intimate conversations with God, religious symbols and notions are some of the things documented and captured. This series is a reflection on one of the hardest years of my life, and became an outlet for my grief after the loss of a beloved family member. This project can be seen as glimpse into what Sabr looked like for me and my family and offers an intimate view into religion, culture and faith and brings attention to a misrepresented group of people.
